How to update your Fire TV Stick or Cube

While your Fire TV device must be configured to download and install software updates automatically, you can also do this manually. Here’s how to check for and install an update with the latest version of the Fire TV operating system.

Step 1: On the House screen, select the Settings icon (a gear) on the far right of the screen.

Step 2: Choose from the list of available settings My Fire TVand then select About.

Step 3: Choose either one Install updates (if an update needs to be installed) or Check for updates to see if anything is available for download.

Step 4: Do not unplug your Fire TV device once the update has started. When the update is complete, your Fire TV device will restart automatically.

Update a Fire TV device with an outdated operating system

Depending on how old your Fire TV device is, the hardware may run an older version of Fire OS that looks and performs slightly differently, although you can still download and install software updates.

Step 1: Select on the home screen Settingson the far right of the screen.

Step 2: Select from the list of options My Fire TVthen choose About.

Step 1: Go to Settingsthen choose My Fire TV.

Step 3: You will then see a submenu on the right side of the page showing what Fire OS software version your Fire TV device is running (below Software version), as well as how much storage space is available, and a few other fields.
