Kayla Itsines’ online fitness empire Sweat has hit turbulence with an estimated 30 staff leaving headquarters — as the pregnant workout queen spews the app to her 15 million Instagram followers.

The 31-year-old mother sold her digital workout platform to US company iFit for $400 million last year, following an explosion in home exercise as gyms and sports centers closed amid the Covid pandemic.

Itsines is still the face of the brand and remains involved in running the business.

But subscriptions, which cost $20 a month, started to dwindle when gyms reopened last year.

The Adelaide headquarters employed nearly 100 employees prior to the sale to iFit, according to the Advertiserthat number is about to drop to 45.

A company spokeswoman would not confirm the exact numbers, but said the company would cut costs and force layoffs.

The company’s largest market is in the US, but last year it was reported that its subscription revenue was down 16 percent in fiscal year 2020-2021, representing a loss of $9.5 million.

Meanwhile, the heavily pregnant Itsines continues to promote Sweat to her 15.2 million Instagram followers.

On Sunday, she uploaded a video revealing that she can’t wait to get back to doing burpees, skipping, pushups, squats, jump lunges, tricep dips and ab-bikes after having her baby in January.

She tagged Sweat in the post and used several Sweat-related hashtags.

On Friday, she posted a video of herself following the app while doing a leg workout.

It comes just weeks after Itsines launched a range of gym wear in collaboration with Pip Edwards’ activewear empire, PE Nation.

According to an Instagram post from PE Nation, the collection is “is inspired by Kayla’s fast-paced routine and made to fit all aspects of your day’.

Daily Mail Australia revealed that PE Nation, another beneficiary of the pandemic, laid off at least four staff from its own headquarters earlier this month.

Itsines created the first version of Sweat in 2015 with her ex-partner, Tobi Pearce. At the time, it was called the Bikini Body Guide fitness program.

Pearce remained in the company as her business partner even after they parted ways in 2020 until he left in February this year.

She has a three-year-old daughter with Pearce and is expecting her first child with fiancé Jae Woodroffe.
