Medtronic Makes Medtech History in Singapore

Medtronic uses extended reality (XR), augmented and virtual reality, and robotics to provide immersive learning experiences and remote training to healthcare professionals in Asia.

The company launched a Medtronic Customer eXperience Center (MCXC) in Singapore. The center is designed to bring healthcare professionals from around the world together to generate ideas, share and learn through virtual technologies.

Medtronic said the MCXC will serve as a one-stop healthcare technology center for healthcare professionals around the world to receive training on advanced innovation and medical treatment procedures. For example, the facility’s remote XR cardiac training platform, which presents simulation through virtual technologies, will give healthcare professionals an immersive experience with the latest medical devices without having to be physically present.

The virtual hands-on training will also give healthcare professionals access to knowledge-sharing resources and opportunities aimed at improving skills and building capabilities, resulting in better patient outcomes in the digital age.

“Today’s event is an important milestone,” said Geoff Martha, Medtronic Chairman and CEO. “Technology and innovation are the only ways to address today’s rapidly evolving healthcare environment. Our focus on meeting unmet patient needs through the application of biomedical technology and our collaboration with clinicians across Asia will only be enhanced by the new Customer Experience Center. I look forward to continued collaboration with Singapore as the region gains momentum as a healthcare hub for Asia. Together we can fulfill the Medtronic mission to relieve pain, restore health and extend the lives of millions of people – across Singapore, Asia and around the world.”

Goh Wan Yee, senior vice president and head of healthcare for the Singapore Economic Development Board, said the launch of MCXC demonstrates the strength of Singapore’s healthcare and innovation ecosystems.

“The new facility puts Singapore in a strong position to serve as a major medical training hub for the region, while also creating exciting job opportunities for Singaporeans,” said Yee.

Diana Tang, vice president of global commercial operations and customer experience at Medtronic, said the MCXC represents how innovation can transcend physical boundaries using simulators and telepresence technology to provide virtual hands-on training and learning opportunities.

“MCXC is our first-ever customer experience center and Singapore’s focus on developing Medtech, along with the infrastructure and support for companies establishing a presence here, makes it an ideal location for such innovation centers,” said Lavie Golenberg, Director and Head of MCXC . “MCXC aims to be at the forefront of industry-wide efforts to leverage advanced healthcare technologies for better patient outcomes. We look forward to bringing the global healthcare community together through this technology-focused ecosystem to connect, collaborate work and learn what it means to perform patient care in the digital age.”
