Last month, PANTERA played seven shows in Mexico and South America. The band will next headline Japan’s “comeback” edition in 2023 Loud park festival. The two-day “limited” event will take place March 25 at Intex Osaka in Osaka and March 26 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City near Tokyo.

Brown was forced to leave PANTERA‘s Latin American tour after testing positive for COVID-19. For him filling in at some shows was BUYING OF LIVESTOCK bassist Derek Engelmanwho also plays with Anselmo in both PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS and TO SAND.

Until his death, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmowhom the drummer blamed indirectly dime bag‘s dead.

Vinny Paul and dime bag co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGE PLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGE PLAN at the Alrosa villa in Columbus, Ohio, dime bag was shot and killed on stage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed the members of PANTERA were stealing his mind.

Vinnie died on June 22, 2018 at his other home in Las Vegas at the age of 54. He died of dilated cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart and severe coronary artery disease. His death was due to chronic weakening of the heart muscle, which basically meant that his heart could not pump blood as well as a healthy heart.

benante opened up about his participation in PANTERA‘s return during a new appearance on the “Talking is Jericho” podcast, hosted by wrestling superstar and FOZZY frontman Chris Jericho.

Charlie said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET) “I had found out [about PANTERA playing shows again] by the end of December [2021] – maybe it was early January [of 2022] when Philip called me up – and I immediately said, ‘Yup. I want to do it.’ It just felt right. For some reason with Darrell and Vinnie being away, l, myself, have missed these numbers. You can listen to them all you want, but I think if they were performed in front of your eyes and performed properly, it really resonated with a lot of people when they actually found out that this was going to happen.

He continued: “We always joke about like THE BEATLESif John [Lennon] and George [Harrison] had been here, there would have been a reunion. And I think the first thing I said was it probably would have been in the beginning Live help. The thing about Vinnie and Dime not be here anymore, and Philip and rexare here, I think those guys felt, ‘I want to play my songs again too.'”

benante went on to say he knows “that there are die-hard fans out there who have their issues with” him, Wylde, Anselmo and Brown occur under PANTERA name, “but for me and Bag, we only honor our friends, to be honest. That’s what we do,” he explained. “And that’s all. I enjoy playing these songs. When I look at the setlist and see the next song coming on, man I get so excited. So for me it’s so great to do this. And when I see the reaction… I mean, you’ve seen the videos [from the shows in Mexico and South America]. People just love it. So why even be so negative about something when you see how much fun people have and how much fun it brings? … We couldn’t even ourselves; that’s how loud it was. It was So loud. I said this with ANTHRAX even when we came down [to South America]that sometimes you just want to stop playing and just take it all in. And that’s one thing that the fans in Chile haven’t seen much [people holding up their phones and filming the show]. You just saw them enjoying the moment. And that was one thing I just applauded.”

According to Charlie“celebration” is the best way to describe what’s new PANTERA lineup is trying to achieve by bringing the music back to the live stages around the world. “I think that’s the most appropriate word to use for this thing, because it is a celebration of the music and atmosphere these guys have created,” he said.Vinnie and Dime would be all for it. And I know there were issues with those guys in the past, but man it’s 2022 now. You can’t hold a grudge all your life. You have to let the shit go and you have to just say, ‘I’m going to enjoy this. i want to hear it ‘Cowboys from Hell’ again. i want to hear it ‘I’m exhausted’.’ That is it. Just come out and celebrate.”

As for all the naysayers, benante added: “I said something about two or three weeks ago about how I thought it was disrespectful for people to say the things they said because I felt that Vinnie and Dime, if it were the other way around, they probably would too, because they would want their music to live on. That’s the point, because there are two generations that have never seen each other PANTERA. And this is not the PANTERA that started this whole thing… Yeah, that’s it Philip and rexand it’s myself and Bag fill in for whom Darrell and Vinnie. And we just try to play these songs the best we can.”
