Rise of The Beasts Trailer Has Fans Cautiously Optimistic

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts revealed a first trailer ahead of its 2023 release and fans are approving it, hoping the movie lives up to the billing after dropping the first sneak peek.


The trailer for the sci-fi action movie came out on December 1 and Transformers lovers made their feelings known on Twitter. Fans of the franchise praised everything about the anticipated trailer for its simplicity Transformers botscostume designs to his apparent return to classical themes. Many expressed hope that the film will be a successful sequel to the most recent installment, Bumblebeewhich was based on the titular Transformers character and Autobots member.

Another overarching theme among fan reactions to the trailer was the hope that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts pushes the franchise further forward into the post-Michael Bay era. Bay’s first five installments in the franchise garnered a mixed response, despite consistently generating strong returns at the box office. The director was called out for the immature humor and dullness of some of his characters, the alleged objectification of female leads, including Megan Fox, and over-the-top action sequences. Bay itself was also not satisfied with his work, as he felt the first test screenings of the original 2007 film, Transformerswere terrible.

Bumblebee, which was directed by Travis Knight in his live action debut, was generally well received by audiences upon its release in December 2018, grossing $468 million at the worldwide box office. The film was praised for adding soul and emotion to the characters, with better humor and a decent portrayal of life in the late 1980s where the film was set.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is directed by Steven Caple Jr., who also helmed the 2018 boxing film, Creed II. The seventh movie in the Transformers franchise centers around Optimus Prime in 1994, spanning Brooklyn, New York City, and Peru. Peter Cullen reprises his longtime role as Optimus Prime, while Golden Globe-winning actor Ron Perlman plays Optimus Primal, the Maximal leader known for his gorilla transformations. The movie also shines Suicide Squad star Peter Davidson as Mirage, Lisa Koshy as Arcee, and Peter Dinklage as Scourge.

The next Transformers movie will be the first of a new trilogy, according to Paramount Pictures, though no details have been provided on the sequels. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was originally scheduled for a theatrical release in North America on June 24, 2022, but was pushed back without explanation.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will premiere in theaters on June 9, 2023.
