Season 8 Crowns a Winner

This post contains spoilers for the Season 8 finale of The masked singer.

The masked singer managed to crown a Season 8 win on Wednesday, despite it being “the toughest finals ever” according to it Ken Young.

his fellow judges Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke helped make the winning call between finalists Harp and Lambs. Each act took the stage twice, with their second performance re-imagining a classic pop song.

Harp kicked off the final night. “Being under the mask allowed me to separate myself from previous jobs, my name, what people expect of me, and prove myself with just my voice,” she said in her clue pack.

Harp belt Lady Gaga‘The Edge of Glory’.

“That was by far, in all eight seasons, the best performance I’ve seen in a finale show ever,” the 50-year-old McCarthy told Harp.

The panel suggested that Harp might be Fantasy Barrino, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jennifer Hudson, Amber Riley, Jill Scott or Jordan Sparks.

Lambs – who revealed in their clue pack that they call themselves Rose, Lilac and Blueberry because of their clothing colors – followed with Chaka Khan‘I am every woman’.

“That was a brilliant song choice for you Lambs, because the three of you are the true embodiment of women supporting women,” said Scherzinger, 44.

The chicksthe Kardashian sisters and Wilson Phillips all emerged as possibilities for the trio’s identity.

“This is basically a dead end,” Jeong, 53, said of the close competition.

Before returning to perform their reimagined classic, Lambs said in their pre-recorded intro, “We spent 14 years apart and went our separate ways. We became mothers and defined our own lives and careers.”

Next, Lambs put their spin on “I Want to Know What Love Is” from Foreigner.

“Do you want to know what love is? You will see if you win The masked singerMcCarthy told Lambs.

Host Nick Cannon Lambs asked what winning would mean to them. “We have little lambs at home and we really wanted to make them proud of us,” Lilac said.

Harp closed by covering John Mayer‘Gravity’ in her own way.

“That’s hands down one of the best things we’ve ever heard on this stage. Ever,” said Thicke, 45.

Scherzinger agreed. “You really are one of the best to ever grace our stage,” she told Harp.

Harp appreciated the praise. “It just means there’s a lot of validation to do,” she said. “I’ve been through a lot in this industry and sometimes you forget who you are and sometimes you need people to remind you.”

After the judges and studio audience voted for their favorite artist of the night, Cannon announced that Harp had received the most votes and would be crowned the Masked singer season 8 champion.

“It feels so great,” she said. “I’m so excited.”

Before Harp revealed her identity, Lambs unmasked. Thicke’s guess of Wilson Phillips turned out to be correct, as Chynna Phillips and Carnie and Wendy Wilson came out from under the oversized hoods.

“Do you know how great it is to have the mask off and talk now?” asked Carnie, 54. “It was so amazing. What an honor. This thing was a trip!”

Finally, it was time for winner Harp to unmask. Scherzinger was right in her suggestion of cheerfulness alum Amber Riley.

“This was such an amazing experience to be able to come out here and be completely covered up and let my talent speak for itself,” said the actress, 36, after taking off her mask. “And the love I have for people and wanting people to heal and feel what I’m saying. So I hope everyone felt my soul because I exposed it here on this stage.”
